Funeral Prices – Time for Change

Below we quote a very personal message by Christopher, our MD, regarding funeral costs. This is something that we feel extremely passionate about and we will always do what we can to ensure that the services we provide are value for money.

“Having recently suffered the sad loss of my father I have needed to look at funeral costs from the other side, as a client rather than a funeral director. I have always tried to ensure the best value and service when considering our own pricing, but perspective naturally changes when faced with decisions yourself.

To be honest, the cost of so much related to saying goodbye to a loved one is in so many instances unacceptable. I do not include all involved in bereavement care in this statement as there are many who excel in so many ways. To these I sincerely thank you.

But, whilst so many of us provide clear pricing and ensure what we at least help to alleviate funeral poverty. Whilst also, correctly demanding greater regulation, surely we should all be looking to provide value and care at this most important of times without prompt?

Why doesn’t all within funeral care provide complete and transparent information regarding services and costs on their website? And why when there is already some (basic) regulation in place is so little done to ensure enforcement?

It is up to us within bereavement care to provide clear, concise, and comprehensive information to allow informed choice for all. The National Association of Funeral Directors (NAFD), The National Society of Allied and Independent Funeral Directors (SAIF), the government, and all involved with the regulation of funeral service must play their part in making what should be standard practice a reality.

No bereaved person should ever feel panicked and trapped by finding out the costs of a service for the first time only after making the arrangements. As those entrusted with conducting this most important of duties we can, and must, do better”.
